The Sustainable Redevelopment Plan
In 2018, resident leaders partnered with the Eastside Community Network and the Detroit Collaborative Design Center to update our neighborhood's future. Engaging over 150 residents and numerous city agencies, we created the McDougall-Hunt Neighborhood Sustainable Redevelopment Plan.
This living document assesses our history, analyzes existing conditions, and outlines a vision for a revitalized McDougall-Hunt. It is intended to guide growth, promote a cohesive neighborhood identity, and celebrate our character as a unique Detroit community.

McDougall-Hunt is one of the last physical representations of the Black Bottom and Paradise Valley neighborhoods—communities that embodied Black economic leadership and empowerment in Detroit.
To protect this memory, BPNDC commissioned local historian Kenneth Coleman to research and write our neighborhood's history. We thank the Alternative Foundation for funding this critical work. We don't just live here; we are the stewards of a legacy of resilience that powers our vision for the future.
